In all, 996 pilots were trained in Tuskegee from 1941 to 1946, approximately 445 were deployed overseas, and 150 Airmen lost their lives in accidents or combat. 
This wall outside of the East entry control pointof Joint Base Balad, Iraq where members of the New York Air National Guard from Stewart ANG Base, N.Y., The work honors a member of their unit who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attack. The unit carries a flag in honor of Staff Sgt. Jerome Dominguez which will be flown on base Sept. 11, 2011.
